A little about me…
My name is Carla Monroe and obviously I have a passion for wine & food which is why I decided to start this website.
I have been a hospitality professional for over 15 years. For the past five years I have enjoyed an amazing career as a sales and marketing manager for Morton’s The Steakhouse in Indianapolis.
I recently passed the Level I introductory Sommelier course and exam, a first step in a rigorous four-step process toward earning the esteemed Master Sommelier diploma from the Court of Master Sommeliers, the only internationally recognized credential for beverage sales and service.
Not only do I love to share my passion for wine and offering my personal wine reviews but I also enjoy hearing about your favorite wines. So please feel free to send me a note with your favorite suggestions via my contact form! Cheers!

Carla – Congrats on the indy star article, website and the budding career as a Sommelier at Morton’s, whose bar I try to frequent a couple times a week.
The Puzzle sounds like an intriguing wine. I may seek that out. My wife and I have a wine club with some good friends and we enjoy experimenting with all types of food and wine.
Hard to nail down a favorite wine, but a red that I’ve enjoyed drinking recently is Orin Swift’s “The Prisoner”. Not only is this a wonderful blend that is well balanced with soft tannins and some chocolate notes, it also has one of the coolest wine labels around.
Though typically a Napa cab guy with my steak, The Prisoner held its own quite well. If you’ve not tried it, I would recommend it. The tannins and structure is probably not as firm as the true Napa meritages, of whom I have a love-hate relationship, but it is a good example of a blend that can be a bit softer than others, but still drinks like a “big boy”!
Lately, with the weather, it’s been the whites I’ve been drawn to, especially with grilled seafood (think scallops) I’ve been drinking Pinot Gris from Willamette Valley. Some great values at Costco have made this varietal one I am really becoming a big fan of, especially as a “deck” wine or with seafood and chicken. To me, it’s a can’t miss. As you try more whites, I would recommend the Pinot Gris from WillaKenzie Estate. Creamy, rich with tropical fruit notes. A great wine for the summer!
Cheers!

Hey Carla!
I saw the article in Indystar and I just wanted to say, Congrats! How exciting for you and Morton’s. I hope all is well at the restaurant, I need to come in and try some of your suggestions. And I agree with Brent, I tried “The Prisoner” at Tastings, and it was incredible. Take care and good luck on your tests!
